HAT ETIQUETTE VIA EMILY POST

Selecting and wearing the right hat is perhaps not as important as knowing when to remove it.  In the past, ladies were entirely exempt from traditional hat rules, wearing them whenever and where ever they wished.  But according to Emily Post's Etipedia, those old rules, they are a-changin' {a smidge}.  In today's culture, while women may still keep their hats on ~
  • In someone's home
  • At luncheons, weddings, garden parties
  • At religious services
  • At a movie or any indoor performance
  • When the national anthem is played
  • When the flag of the United States passes by, as in a parade
they should always remove them ~
  • Anytime it blocks someone's view, such as at a wedding or in a theater, or
  • Indoors at work
Word, Mrs. Post.
